Illustration Friday-"Daring"

Illustration Friday is a website that takes random words and asks artists to post their drawings about it. It's like a weekly inkblot test for illustrators. Today's word is:Daring.

Remember the old Warner Brothers cartoon where Bugs Bunny had Yosemite Sam jump from a high high diving board into a glass of water? I think to even climb to the top is pretty daring! (remind me to add -scared of heights to my 100 things!)

Here's some good news about Bugs.

I think subconsciously I'm thinking about Iced Tea. It got windy and cold here...and I know, it snowed elsewhere. So what's all this about global warming?

Oh well! Hey have an awesome Friday!

An Electric Personality

Meet the real record holder Roy C Sullivan, the "human lightning conductor". If I got hit by lightning that many times, I'd have been looking for a desk job! In a sad twist to the story, it seems that while nature tried, love got him in the end.

Gone!!

I was thinking about all the things that go extinct in life. Things like bad inclinations, awkward goals, and old girlfriends. Some of those aspirations would have put me in an altogether different place and would have probably made me an altogether different man. Thank God every dream doesn't come true and every prayer doesn't get answered (at least with a yes). Some things are best left gone.

When Sally Met Hairy

My mom claimed to see bigfoot once at a "Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park" campground. This was in the 70's and streaking was a fad. I wonder if she just saw Yogi's "bear behind"?

***Hear Yogi's "corn dance" commercial!!!

So a ferry boat operator filmed Bigfoot? Read here! I didn't know about this until someone searched it and ended up at this post.

Something Fishy Going On

What do 203 bushels of fish and one smashed crab have in common besides an unfortunate but yummy end? They are just a part of my day in commercial fishing. I apologize that my "daily" comic has been somewhat intermitent this week. I began working on the bay and "boy are my arms tired". All kidding aside it is great to work on the water, although I will be driving to Baltimore and back alot with the fresh fish and crabs when the season picks up.

I watched a tragedy unfold on the dock yesterday as a female Maryland Blue Crab escaped from a bushel. Just as she was celebrating her victory she was run over by a forklift. I wonder if crabs have bad karma or just really bad days.

Bumbling Into Spring

With the warmer weather we are beginning to see a lot more insects. Yesterday we had two huge bumble bees in the house. I wasn't expecting that. I'd never seen them since we moved here so I'm wondering if I need to call the Orkin man. I don't know how they got in the house or what they were looking for. Both found the toilet though. I bet they weren't expecting that.

Here's a fun thing I found on the Orkin man's web site: Play Name That Bug!

ACLU Blogbust-Non-Partisan Politicking

The ACLU is non-partisan... And I'm the REAL Howard Hughes!

Although I admit he does look alot like ME!

and nothing like DiCaprio.
Hey Bub! ALSO, lose the tie!

Todays blogburst is about the communist identification of the ACLU written by Jay from the Stop the ACLU blog.

ACLU: Growing Up Commie

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. While
Roger Baldwin, the founder of the ACLU, had strong Communist ties and
even declared it as his ultimate goal, he was never actually a member
of the Communist party.

Unfortunately, the same can not be said about those who joined him to
form the organization. His first Board of Directors were Elizabeth Gurly Flynn and William Z.
Foster
, both of whom would later head the Communist Party in
America.

Baldwin was very open about his goals, unlike many of today's ACLU
leaders. They try to rewrite Baldwin's history as a simple
"flirtation" with Communism that only lasted a brief period.

However, Roger grew up in a family of radicals and socialists, and at
the ripe age of fifty he said, "I am for socialism, disarmament,
and ultimately for abolishing the State itself as an instrument for
violence and compulsion. I seek the social ownership of property, the
abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who
produce wealth. Communism is the goal
."

He made his first trip to Russia in 1923. After returning, in his book
Liberty Under the Soviets, Roger admitted that their government had
instituted "complete censorship of all means of communications and
the complete supression of any organized opposition to the
dictatorship or its program
."

So, did this supposed champion of civil liberties condemn these
actions? Not at all!

He said, "Repression in Western democracies are violations of
proffessed constitutional liberties and I condemn them as such.
Repressions in Soviet Russia are weapons of struggle in a transition
period to Socialsim
."

In 1934, Baldwin wrote in the Soviet Russia
Today
,"When that power of the working class is once
achieved, as it has been only in the Soviet Union, I am for
maintaining it by any means whatever
."

The ACLU reflected this attitude. Of the ACLU Board members elected
during its first sixty years, almost eighty percent had Communist
affiliations. Ninety percent of its cases involved defending
Communists.

As a result, it was labeled a "Communist-Front", and came under the
investigation of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

On August 20, 1939 Roger was betrayed by his greatest hero, Josef
Stalin. Stalin signed a non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler.

In 1940, the ACLU felt a need to distance itself from the Communist
Party, at least in public perception. In what is known as the 1940
Resolution, the ACLU Board declared it "inappropriate for any
person to serve on the governing committees of the Union or its Staff,
who is a member of any political organization which supports
totalitarian dictatorship in any country, or who by his public
declarations indicates his support of such a principle
."Source

This was very unfortunate for Elizabeth Gurly Flynn, who was a member
of the Communist Party at the time of the 1940 Resolution.

It would be nice if this were the end of the story, however by the
mid-1960's the ACLU no longer felt the need to seperate itself from
Communism. So, in 1967, the board voted to effectively rescind the
1940 Resolution and welcomed communists back into the Union. They
later rescinded Flynn's purge, and elevated her to "hero" status.

They came under investigation again and were debated in Congress in
1961.Source

Despite all the the denials to the contrary, the evidence is
overwhelming that the ACLU is still working toward the end goal of
Communism.

William Kunstler, as a member of the National Advisory Counsel stated,
"I am a double agent, working within the system to bring down the
system."

Just study it's policies and case history and it is obvious they still
seek Communist and socialist goals.

Unfortunatley, many Americans are still fooled, and hold the members
of this organization as heros. In 1981, Jimmy Carter awarded
Roger Baldwin the Medal of Freedom
-the nation's highest
civilian honor.Source

Help us wake America up to the goals of the ACLU! We are trying to
raise money to help expose the ACLU through advertisments and
commercials. It is very expensive. Please help us with what you can.
Visit our Bulldoze The ACLU Store, and buy a bumper sticker. Every little bit helps.

ACLU Blogburst-"Putting A Pest Aside"

Here's what's buggin' Bill...

JOIN NOW! The Stop the ACLU Newsletter (to subscribe email Nedd at number1nedd@hotmail.com ) .

STOP THE ACLU COALITION

KEEPING AMERICA SAFE & FREE FROM THE ACLU

Dear Friends & Supporters:

This letter is in follow up to our first newsletter on March 18th. Forthose of you who are hearing from us for the very first time, we welcome you aboard and thank you for your support of our efforts to rid America of the ACLU.

As most of you know (unless you have already signed up), the Stop the ACLU Coalition is holding a rally in Champaign, IL next Saturday,April 9th to confront the ACLU at a conference they are having out there. If you have agreed to come, please be at the Hawthorn Suites Hotel by 8:30 AM. We will be carrying signs and a huge banner donated by one of our supporters from Colorado who represents a ministry known as "He Knows My Name" (http://www.hkmn.net/). We will pass out flyers to passersby as well.

Our numbers are quite small for the moment, though we have folks coming from Minnesota, Missouri and Tennessee to be part of this inaugural event. Since the meeting taking place will be concerning ACLU issues in Illinois, we would like a large representation from the Land of Lincoln. However, anyone is welcome to come and if you plan to be there, please let me know as soon as possible, preferably by this Thursday. We need to show the ACLU that there are multitudes of Americans who oppose their God forsaken agenda on this land. Read more...

The Appliance Alliance

There seems to be a secret code between appliances to never break when idle. About a week ago I had commented on Half Pint House about the fact that my washer knocks books off my bookshelf when it spins. The author replied that she thought it was trying to make it's escape. Well I'm sorry to say it died in a failed attempt. I think it had a happy death. It just quit. No noise, bells, whistles or smoke. I just hope it didn't have a pact with the dryer.

Shout It Out

My three oldest kids all want iPods. As if there isn't enough communication problems already. Actually the biggest communication problem is with my one year old. And it isn't a lack of communication. That is for certain.

It seems to me that in our advanced age there should be something other than yelling that will move my kids. They are good kids , but unfortunately sometimes I must resort to it, and still I don't know if my point gets across. My one year old gets none of it. He is eternally climbing and grabbing. He knows the elevated purpose of the stool, a box, and a chair. I tell him no (100 times) and then I yell him no. His response is a sonically correct copy of what I just yelled, in baby mimic, which makes it far more interesting than the original. So I've taken to just saying anything...NASDAQ figures, lines to my favorite movies, random word phrases... Just to mix it up a bit. Oh well... like father, like son I guess...at least verbally.

To Bow Out Quietly

Pope John Paul II - The earth's clearest voice for the sanctity of life dies with dignity. Rest, dear friend, in the arms of God.

This has been a tough week for me as a cartoonist. We saw two end of life dramas played out, each from opposite ends of the spectrum. We've argued, blogged, worried, pondered, and prayed. Although people of notoriety die every day I have never felt the need to draw two memorials in one week.

Things that seemed funny lose their edge when death pervades. The same thing happened on 9/11. It was weeks until I could find my quirky muse again. This time it is different though. I mourn a spiritual leader and one of the very people he spent his life giving dignity to. For this I count it providence, for the spotlight remains focused, for a time, on the right side of the value of life. +-<:-)
