He out-sells Monet and Van Gogh on coffee cups, mousepads and dishtowels... Critics scorn this million dollar pop art as "soulless" and "inoffensive enough". (That's interesting...perhaps they were looking for something more along the lines of a Mohammad cartoon?) I think the critics out there should give the man a break. He paints what he likes, how he likes AND he has an audience for it. More power to him. At least his success is arriving while he is alive.
As for what constitutes "bad art"? I don't know. Given art is an expression of the artist, does ones distaste for a certain style or lack of artistic prowess make the artist, then, "bad"? It doesn't work this way but the snobbery can make it seem that way.
Bad art isn't really that bad anyway... Or is it? Visit the Museum of Bad Art.
