From today's second reading : Hebrews 5:7 - 9 During his life on earth, Christ offered up prayer and entreaty, aloud and in silent tears, to the one who had the power to save him out of death, and he submitted so humbly that his prayer was heard. Although he was Son, he learnt to obey through suffering; but having been made perfect, he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation.

I have to admit... I like the Easter Bunny. And colored eggs. And all the candy. It is a harmless excuse for parental babying that was invented in much the same manner as Christmas gift exchanges in the early 1800's, first in England and followed shortly after in the states. Not all the ways we celebrate have always been. The celebration of Spring in no different for Americans. Most Americans see it for the harmless tradition that it is.
When the St Paul (MN) city counsel deemed the Easter Bunny as an inappropriate promomotion of a Christian holiday, it had me scratching my head. I always thought of it as seperate from my Christian celebration of the Death and Resurrection Of Jesus Christ. Most Christian's do which is why it seems such a farce.
As far as it's relationship to the biblical record, Jim Galewski has this to say on the Winona Daily News Op page:
"Since it’s been a few years since I’ve read the Bible in its entirety, I did a search of 25 translations of the Bible. I couldn’t find one reference about a “bunny, Easter Bunny or Easter egg.”
And:
"Instead of worrying about who might be offended with an Easter Bunny display, let’s give the people who don’t believe in the Easter Bunny a chance to exercise a little tolerance."
Tolerance from those who DON'T believe in the Easter Bunny!! Please I beg you don't burn any embassies or demand the heads of any "peeps"!
Now when the Late nite talkshow hosts start lining up with Christian thoughts on this, you KNOW something is amiss (maybe?).
Jay Leno joked:
"In St. Paul, Minn., City Hall removed a display of an Easter bunny, pastel eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter" because they might offend non-Christians. Good thing. You certainly don't want anything Christian tainting a city called St. Paul."
I think the real point of it all is this: St. Paul Council President Kathy Lantry really doesn't know what the Christian celebration of Easter is, after all the PC treatment. It amounts to Jesus alone being the "source of eternal life." If she doesn't know that she has more trouble in store than just colored eggs on the state house lawn.
