Bay Bridge-Tunnel stars in latest 'Mission Impossible' filmBy Jay Diem BELLE HAVEN -- The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel got its 15 minutes of fame this weekend as hundreds of thousands flocked to theaters around the country to see Paramount Pictures' summer blockbuster, "Mission: Impossible III."A special part of the premier was a local opening for employees and guests of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, where part of the movie was filmed."Overall, working with Paramount was very positive and working with the Virginia Film Company was also positive," said Jeff Holland, executive director of the bridge-tunnel. "The economic ramifications were very positive for the Commonwealth." Holland estimated that nearly 900 bridge-tunnel employees and their families attended three special premieres at the Idle Hour Theater here on Saturday."We certainly appreciate the opportunity that Paramount provided with the special showings on Saturday," he said.When the bridge first appeared on screen, "everybody cheered," Holland said.No mention of the facility's two underwater tunnels made their way into the film, nor were they ever filmed because of an agreement with the studio, said Holland."We didn't want any accolades," Holland said, referring to publicity about the bridge-tunnel. Officials didn't want to broadcast too much about the span and its composition because of ever-present terrorism threats.The partnership was also a windfall for local charity work after Paramount reimbursed the bridge-tunnel for the cost of the production at the facility.In all, $30,000 was directed by the commission to be donated to the Eastern Shore United Way Campaign.
