E Is For...

For Illustration Friday: E is For... Elephant!
About selective memory...
Memory can be your best friend or your biggest foe. Most of us have the tendency to remember and hold on to the bad stuff of our past. Often to the point where it defines us. I was watching the History Channel's "Lincoln" last night and was struck by the sense that with all Lincoln accomplished he could not rise above the terrible memories of his past. We are all like that in ways. But one should not let memories define you. Memories are not real and should not be as relevant as we try to make them. The only real thing is right now...no past no future. Past and future thinking are constructs of the mind, imaginations so to speak. So it is to our benefit that we are selective about what memories we entertain. We can chose if they will be those that build us up or those that tear us apart.
Peace and have a blessed day.
