Sunday Nugget - The Inner Revolution

From Today's Second Reading : 1 Corinthians 7:29 - 31
"Brothers, this is what I mean: our time is growing short. Those who have wives should live as though they had none, and those who mourn should live as though they had nothing to mourn for; those who are enjoying life should live as though there were nothing to laugh about; those whose life is buying things should live as though they had nothing of their own; and those who have to deal with the world should not become engrossed in it. I say this because the world as we know it is passing away."
Say what?! Those who have wives should live as though they had none? Not if my wife has any say in the matter. No we are not talking about Hugh Hefner's life verse either. Rather this reading comes in the middle of what I like to call the "stations of life" chapter, where Paul is discussing the various relationships of husband and wives and God, and singleness and God. Paul is commenting on whether people should marry or not and what the ramifications of such things would be.
Then he says time is short. And calls for a revolution of those things he has just discussed. The husband should live as though he has no wife in the same way as a single person regarding God. He should now live with a singular focus on service to the Lord. Not at the cost of his marriage but as a part of the marriage. The change should be so profound as to make the mourning stop mourning, the joyful somber, the affluent humble, and the worldly removed from their attachment to the world.
Because of Jesus the world as we know it is passing away. Jesus fundamentally changes the person who belongs to Him. He changes the believers circumstances by changing the believer. When things are viewed through Jesus' lens everything is offered to Him as an act of love and service.
In this way Jesus changes everything.
File Under : Jesus; Christian Living and Church is everyday plus Sunday.
Peace and be blessed.
